Avengers 2 Looking At Kick-Ass' Aaron Taylor Johnson To Play Quicksilver
The role of Quicksilver has fast become the most noteworthy addition to Joss Whedon's upcoming Avengers 2. The director revealed that the character would be included in the highly-anticipated sequel back in April - along with his twin sister Scarlet Witch - but the addition of the superhero in the script caused some waves in Hollywood. After all, both Marvel Studios and 2oth Century Fox own the film rights to Quicksilver, meaning that either studio can use him in a movie.
But the situation didn't become a problem until last month when director Bryan Singer announced that Evan Peters would be playing the role of Quicksilver in Fox's X-Men: Days of Future Past, a movie set to come out nearly a full year before The Avengers 2. We're still waiting for the fallout of the entire situation (and fascinated to find out the result), but for now it looks as though Marvel is moving forward with finding an actor of their own to play the speedy mutant - and it seems they have set their sights on one with superhero experience.
Sources close to the production have informed The Wrap that Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson is being heavily considered for the part of Quicksilver in The Avengers 2. While no deal has been made as of yet, he is considered the frontrunner for the job. Should they be able to work out a contract, Taylor-Johnson will join Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson in the ensemble film, with Robert Downey Jr. still in negotiations to return as Iron Man.
It's worth noting that just because Taylor-Johnson is being called the frontrunner doesn't mean he has the job. Before Chris Pratt was selected for the lead in Guardians of the Galaxy we heard stories about Zachary Levi, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jim Sturgess, Michael Rosenbaum, Joel Edgerton, Jack Huston, Lee Pace, Eddie Redmayne, and Garrett Hedlund being considered for the gig, and Pratt was never even rumored. We'll be sure to keep you up to date with all of the information as it comes in.
