The latest photo from Joss Whedon’s The Avengers acts as a centerpiece in the new Empire Magazine, and it kind of serves to remind us that, in addition to Captain America, Thor, Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, this super-powered team also showcases the hot chick from the second Iron Man movie and the guy who made an incredibly brief cameo in Thor. No disrespect to either Scarlett Johansson or Jeremy Renner, both of who are formidable talents. But ask any Marvel fan to rank the Avengers they’re most excited to see, I’m willing to bet good money that Hawkeye and Black Widow will rank near the bottom of the list. So it is important, to a certain extent, for Disney/Marvel to remind casual viewers that these two popular actors are part of the franchise.

As for the image, which I’m subtitling “Angry Faces,” it appears like the heroes are marching their way through S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, because all of the guys in the background aren’t paying a bit of attention to the ultra-thin Cap (Chris Evans) and his cohorts as they march toward whatever badness Loki (Tom Hiddleston) has planned.

What do you think of the image? Have you seen enough promotional materials pertaining to The Avengers? Are you just ready for the film to be in theaters? Because that’s where I am. I’m afraid the thrill will be diminished by these marketing teasers. But we still have months to go before The Avengers kick off Summer 2012 on May 4.
