Barbra Streisand And Seth Rogen Bicker In First Clip From The Guilt Trip

Yes, I know there are a lot of big, exciting-looking movies coming up this fall, but I need to admit that I might be the most intrigued by The Guilt Trip. It's Barbra Streisand's first leading role since 1996's The Mirror Has Two Faces, and the idea to pair her-- a Jewish icon for decades-- with the Jewish icon of the moment, Seth Rogen, is pure brilliance. It looks to be a light comedy alternative to the heavy stuff of the fall movie season, and in the first clip from the film, you can get a look at how that comedy will play out between the two of them. Take a look below.

No, none of those jokes are the freshest thing you've heard-- it's basically a minutes-long riff on a Jewish mother joke-- but Streisand and Rogen seem to be striking up a nice rapport, and it's a good twist that he actually wants his mom to come along with him, rather than having her be the kind of overbearing mom who forces herself upon him. Why, exactly, does he want his mom on this road trip? I assume we'll have to wait until the movie's release to find out. But there's a lot of rich comic potential in this pairing, especially when you toss the two of them on the road.

The Guilt Trip, directed by The Proposal's Anne Fletcher, is set for release on December 25-- appropriate enough for the holiday when Jewish families famously go to the movies. As you'd expect from a road trip movie, the story makes room for all kinds of other familiar actors, including a ton you'll know from TV-- Parks and Recreation's Adam Scott, Community's Danny Pudi, Happy Endings' Casey Wilson, The Office's Creed Bratton, and Chuck's Yvonne Strahovski. All that plus Barbra Streisand's glorious return? Sign me up.
