The Screen Actor’s Guild Awards were held this weekend and handed out trophies to the year’s best actors. There’s no category for cinematography or for that matter even Best Picture here. The closest SAG comes to it is Outstanding Performance By A Cast, which is really more of an ensemble award. Predictably, that means there was no love for Avatar, which has cleaned up at other ceremonies but had no place here, and wasn’t nominated. Instead the evening belonged to Inglourious Basterds with two wins. With ten Best Picture nominations to spread around this year, it’s now almost impossible to imagine Tarantino’s Nazi movie not getting some kind of nod from the Academy Awards. Meanwhile back at the SAG awards, everything else went according to Hoyle.
