Beyonce Knowles, Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson Lead All-Star Vocal Cast For Epic
For years,Blue Sky Studios has been associated with the animated Ice Age series. Case in point, the studio has its fourth movie in the franchise - Continental Drift - heading into theaters this July. But little by little Blue Sky has been broadening its focus. They put their creative weight behind Robots, then expanded to include Horton Hears a Who! and Rio, and today they've announced the voice casting behind their next project, and (pun intended) it sounds Epic.
According to a Blue Sky press release, Epic reveals "an ongoing battle [that takes place] deep in the forest between the forces of good and the forces of evil. When a teenage girl finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, she must band together with a rag-tag team of fun and whimsical characters in order to save their world…and ours."
No squirrel-type animal hoarding an acorn? Sign me up. As for the voice cast, Blue Sky announces that Beyonce Knowles will lend her silky pipes to the role of Queen Tara; Colin Farrell is on board as Ronin; The Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson plays Nod; Amanda Seyfried will voice Mary Katherine; Johnny Knoxville voices Mandrake; Parks and Rec standout Aziz Ansari will play Mub; rapper Pitbull voices Bufo, SNL star Jason Sudeikis voices Bomba; and in a token bit of in-house casting, American Idol judge Steven Tyler has been cast as Nim Galuu.
None of those names mean much to us right now. I’m mainly just thrilled that Blue Sky will continue exploring new worlds because I really enjoy Robots and my kids get a kick out of Rio. The Ice Age movies make a fortune, but it's preferred that the artists at Blue Sky continue to stretch themselves. Right now, Epic will be directed by Blue Sky founder Chris Wedge. It has circled May 24, 2013 release date.
