Big Miracle Trailer: Drew Barrymore Gets On The Ice And Saves Some Whales
An inspirational drama about three gray whales trapped under Arctic ice, starring Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski, sounds like the kind of cute explosion that might just be a parody. But it's a real movie, one originally titled Everybody Loves Whales and now given the slightly less absurd title Big Miracle. The movie's first trailer has premiered at Apple, and you can also watch it below; if you are a human being with a pulse, you will find it relentlessly cheery but also kinda irresistible too. Take a look below to see what I mean.
The good news is that this looks like the kind of cheesy, delightful inspirational movie that came out in the 80s, and since this one is set in the 80s it gets away with it. The better news is that Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski are adorable in pretty much everything they do, and from just one trailer i know I'll watch the hell out of them crouching on Arctic ice to communicate with the whales. The bad news is that the whole thing is directed by Ken Kwapis, who has solid TV directing credits from Parks & Recreation, The Office and Freaks and Geeks, but as a feature director has inflicted us with License to Wed and He's Just Not That Into You. Clearly he's a great guy to work with-- both Krasinski and Barrymore have worked for him before-- but I'm nervous about what he might bring to a premise that seems simple and sweet. The movie will be in theaters on February 3 for us all to find out for ourselves how it turns out. |
