Because millions of people have read the works of J.R.R. Tolkein, there are more than a few people out there who won't be surprised by The Hobbit's plot progression. While it has been said that Jackson and his writing staff have added new elements to the story, if the Lord of the Rings trilogy is any indication the new films won't stray too far from the book. And there's nothing wrong with that. While it will be great to revisit the story for those that haven't picked up the book in a while, fans will likely be going just to see how it all translates to cinema and Jackson's vision. Now a new banner has been released that gives audiences a cool preview of just that.

EW has unveiled what they are calling "The Scroll," a banner that maps out the adventure of Bilbo Baggins and his group of dwarfs as they trip to the Lonely Mountain to rescue a treasure from a dragon named Smaug. It's a beautiful piece of artwork and if you use the magnifying glass tool on the EW page you can see all of the awesome details, such as the wargs chasing Bilbo up a burning tree, Beorn in bear form, the hero using Sting, his sword, to light Gollum's cave and much, much more. You can also see the banner below (click on it to see it full size).

Jackson's return to Middle Earth for the first time in nearly a decade, The Hobbit will be split into two parts and released in the next two years. The first part, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, will be in theaters on December 14, 2012, while the second, The Hobbit: There And Back Again, won't be arriving until December 13, 2013.
