The Bourne Legacy Trailer: Jason Bourne Was Just The Tip Of Iceberg

This summer Jeremy Renner is tackling the difficult task of taking over the Bourne franchise from Matt Damon, playing a completely different agent inducted into the secretive world that Bourne first introduced us to. Today we're finally getting our first look at Renner as the new super-spy, in a teaser trailer that debuted at Apple. You can watch it there in HD, or embedded below.

It starts off as the true definition of a teaser, with brief glimpses of Renner as Kenneth Kitson, starting things off in very, very bad shape. While familiar faces like Albert Finney and Joan Allen are back, the group that Kitson is part of is described as "Treadstone, without the inconsistency." And Kitson, believe it or not, seems to be even more talented than Bourne, as we see later on in the trailer, when he takes on foes with terrifying efficiency and blowing up a house by, somehow, using a fire extinguisher. I'll look forward to seeing the details of that trick in the actual movie, and also getting a sense of how Renner's own charisma plays into the part. After Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol this will be the second franchise that Renner jumps on board in the shadow of a bigger star, and even though Matt Damon's not in this one, his presence looms large over the movie. There's a reason they mention Jason Bourne by name in this, and it may be a while before we see trailers that actually emphasize Renner himself, and not the franchise they're trying to continue.

Universal is also debuting a new poster for the film, which mimics the Venetian-blind style that you see in the beginning of the trailer, and includes the pretty excellent tagline "There was never just one." You can check out that poster below, and click on it for a higher-res version.

In addition the returning Allen, Finney, Scott Glenn and David Strathairn, the film's cast includes Edward Norton-- who you see a lot of in the trailer, of course-- and Oscar Isaac, Rachel Weisz and Midnight in Paris's Corey Stoll. The movie is set for release on August 3 this year. For everything else you need to know about the movie, visit our Blend Film Database.
