In The Words, The Hangover star Bradley Cooper plays a struggling author plagued by a crippling dose of writer’s block who somehow is connected to a manuscript penned in the past. We posted the first trailer for the literary drama a while back, and now we have three new images (courtesy of Fandango) to share with you. You can see them below and head over to the source to see them in high-res.

Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal co-direct The Words, which looks far more suspenseful than these images suggest. While few of us are going to complain about being able to see beautiful leads like Cooper and Zoe Saldana cuddling on camera, there’s bound to be a twist that will suggest their lives are in serious danger. And what isn’t hinted at in these photos is Klugman and Sternthal’s spectacular supporting cast. The Words boasts appearances by Dennis Quaid, Jeremy Irons, J.K. Simmons, Ben Barnes, Ron Rifkin and Olivia Wilde.

If the film plays its cards right, it could make a suitable bit of suspenseful counter-programming to the end-of-summer, back-to-school fluff that tends to clog up theaters in September. In fact, by releasing on September 21, it's pretty clear that CBS Films is following the pattern Relativity set with the Cooper vehicle Limitless. That smaller-scaled drama came out in March – apart from the stream of big-budgetd blockbusters – and quietly leaned on Cooper’s built-in audience to collect $161M at the worldwide box office. Now, it also was a good movie, so if Words is halfway decent, it might find similar successes. We’ll have to wait and see.
