Bradley Cooper Will Star In Adaptation Of German Comedy Kokowaah
At this point, it isn’t clear if Bradley Cooper’s fame is still rising, since he didn’t yet take home a Best Actor Oscar, or if he is coasting across the peak of fame, by being nominated to begin with and in having a career that sees him in several projects a year.
One of those next projects will be an Engligh-language remake of the smash hit German comedy-drama Kokowääh, which Deadline reports Cooper will both star in and produce through his Warner Bros. offshoot 22nd & Indiana. The film is on a shortlist of films that Cooper would like to become his feature directing debut, but nothing is official yet. Kokowääh and its sequel were both written and directed by Til Schweiger, by arguably German’s most famous movie star, who also starred in the film. If Cooper is really looking to add the director hat to his collection, it’s hard to think of a better project.
The somewhat muddled tale behind Kokowääh involves a carefree bachelor author working with an ex-girlfriend to adapt a best-selling novel when he finds out he has an 8-year-old daughter conceived from a one-night-stand. The film will center both on the relationship between the biological father and daughter, as well as the connection between the actual father and the daughter’s previously unaware foster father, both of whom get their lives upended by the news.
The screenwriters behind Black List screenplay Draft Day, Scott Rothman and Rajiv Joseph will be re-writing a previously-written script from Chris Shafer and Paul Vicknair, the latter of whom penned Justin Reardon’s upcoming romantic comedy A Many Splintered Thing.
Cooper can be seen next in Derek Cianfrance’s crime drama The Place Beyond the Pines with Ryan Gosling, and re-joins Silver Linings Playbook co-star Jennifer Lawrence for Susanne Bier’s Serena before teaming with her and David O. Russell again later in the year. And of course, there’s that little-known The Hangover Part III film coming out on May 24, 2013.
