When it comes to SEAL Team Six movies, nobody in the world had a better jump than Kathryn Bigelow. While her project doesn't have an official title yet and hasn't even gone into production, she and writer Mark Boal were working on it even before Osama bin Laden's death. The project is slated to arrive in theaters on December 19th and has a stacked cast that includes Joel Edgerton, Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong, Chris Pratt, and Jason Clarke, but it still may not be the first movie about the soldiers to hit the big screen.

Cam Gigandet, Freddy Rodriguez, Kathleen Robertson, Anson Mount and William Fichtner have joined Robert Knepper, Xzibit, Kenneth Miller and Eddie Kaye Thomas in Code Name: Geronimo, which began production this week in New Mexico. The project is being directed by John Stockwell, who is best known for directing Blue Crush, Turistas, and Into The Blue. The film's name comes from the name of the operation that led SEAL Team Six into Pakistan to kill the terrorist leader. According to Variety, Mount, Knepper, Xzibit and Miller will play members of the elite unit while Fichtner, Robertson and Thomas will portray CIA agents. The trade doesn't give roles for Gigandet or Rodriguez.

Though Bin Laden was assassinated all the way back in May of last year, this is still a very topical subject and studios are all going to be racing to get their movie to audiences quicker than the rest. Cross your fingers that won't mean rushed production schedules and a series of crappy movies about one of the biggest events of the 21st century.
