Channing Tatum And Antonio Banderas Also Joining Knockout![]()
Over the course of just a few days, Steven Soderbergh's Knockout has gone from yet another one of his under-the-radar projects to a star-studded spectacle. Late last week we told you what Michael Fassbender had to say about his role in the film, in addition to the news that Ewan McGregor, Dennis Quaid and Michael Douglas had also joined the film. Now The Playlist has once again gotten a casting scoop, announcing that Channing Tatum and Antonio Banderas are also on board.
Apparently in touch with a very well-connected source, The Playlist has extensive details about the roles each actor will play alongside cagefighter Gina Carano, in the lead role as black ops spy who is betrayed by her team. Tatum will play one of the elite specialists on Carano's team named Aaron — a military gearhead-type who's sent to try and bring her back in once she's been double-crossed and gone rogue; trying to figure out who exactly is setting her up. But there is no love lost between the characters which makes his mission more difficult. But we're told the role is actually relatively small in the scope of things. Banderas, additionally, would play the head of a black-ops European unit. It's hugely exciting to see Soderbergh pulling together a cast this gigantic, and not made up of usual suspects like Matt Damon or George Clooney (though Michael Douglas is obviously an old friend). Even though Tatum's role is apparently fairly small, the actor seems well poised to break out of his standard meathead parts, and working with Soderbergh isn't a bad way to get there. |
