Chris Evans May Lead Bong Joon-ho's Snow Piercer
After you've battled super-powered Nazis with lasers, where do you go from there? If you're an emerging action star looking to avoid being pigeonholed, you seek out a gritty indie. While Captain America: The First Avenger's dashing leading man Chris Evans will reprise the role of patriotic super soldier Steve Rogers this summer in Joss Whedon's much-anticipated The Avengers, it seems the Sunshine star is looking to return to grittier fare as he has entered talks to join Snow Piercer, the next feature from South Korean writer-director Bong Joon-ho.
Variety reports that Joon-ho, who drew international notice and acclaim with his allegorical monster tale The Host and his harrowing psychological thriller Mother, has joined forces with Oldboy helmer Park Chan-wook to craft Snow Piercer. While Joon-ho wrote the script and will direct, marking his first American-produced feature, Chan-wook will serve as producer. With these two on board, Snow Piercer is sure to attract stars, just as Chan-wook's domestic debut Stoker, which is set to premiere later this year, has garnered such A-listers as Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska. But will Evans be the first to sign on? We'll soon see as production is set to begin as early as March.
Set in a fiercely frigid world of ice and snow, Snow Piercer focuses on a train overstuffed with anxious travelers as well as their efforts to survive and co-exist under such claustrophobic conditions. No further details have been released as to what kind of character Evans would play. Regardless, following The Avengers, Evans will appear opposite everyone's favorite movie madman Michael Shannon in the hitman biopic The Iceman, which is now in production.
