Chronicle 2 Script Having Trouble At Fox
For those of you that liked Josh Trank's Chronicle for it's originality, I have some bad news about the sequel. You may be getting force-fed more of the same.
John Landis, who is the father of Chronicle writer Max Landis, recently attended a double feature of The Wolfman and An American Werewolf in London at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and while speaking to The Playlist he revealed that his progeny has been having trouble with the people over at Fox in regards to Chronicle 2. "He wrote a sequel, and it’s amazing," Landis told the reporter, "and the studio read it and said, ‘We want Chronicle again!’ And he said, ‘No, this is the sequel, it’s the evolution, and they said ‘No, we want that movie again!’ So it’s difficult, we’re dealing with a difficult business." The younger Landis was hired to write the script for the sequel back in March following the first film's critical and box office success (it made $126 million worldwide on a $12 million budget).
While I wasn't as big a fan of Chronicle as I know a lot of people are, I do have to give it credit for what it did in terms of creating a new approach to the superhero genre and the way it tackled its darker themes. But what's the point of doing Chronicle 2 if you're just going to have the same thing happen again and fail to expand on the world the story is taking place in? It seems like a waste.
