Colombiana Trailer: Zoe Saldana Is Out For Revenge, And Becoming An Action Star Too
Colombiana will be hitting theaters in early September, just 6 months after Hanna came out and not a moment sooner. It's probably nobody's fault that the two movies seem so similar, and even though they appear to have the exact same concept-- a girl is trained from a young age to become a killer thanks to a personal tragedy-- the two films from Atonement's Joe Wright and Transporter 3's Olivier Megaton are likely to be hugely different in their execution. Luckily you can tell that just from the new Colombiana trailer that hit today at Yahoo! Movies; you can watch it there in high-res or also embedded below. Experience some ass-kicking and possible child abuse and we'll talk after.
It's almost like they're trying to court the Hanna comparisons, given how much emphasis there is on Saldana's character as a child, the repeated mantra ("Remember where you came from" here as opposed to Hanna's "adapt or die") and even the electronic-tinged music. But it's also clear these movies are for totally different audiences, and Colombiana will basically be a shot of adrenaline in the arm compared to Hanna's artiness and more contemplative moments. And you know what? That's fine. Zoe Saldana is way overdue to be a giant action star and seems to be very much at home in the center of this movie, and the titles the boast the movie is from the writers of Taken (that'd be Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen) and the creator of The Professional (Besson again) tell you exactly what to expect.
Colombiana opens Labor Day weekend, September 2, meaning it'll be one of those last-gasp summer action efforts. For the sake of kick-ass women everywhere and especially Saldana and her burgeoning career, lets hope it's a good one.
