Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan Crosses $300 Million Mark At Global Box Office![]()
It’s an indisputable fact: Every movie made to date that features Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis locked in a passionate kiss has earned more than $300 million worldwide.
OK, so only one movie fits that criteria, and the softcore smooches between Portman and Kunis aren’t the only reason Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan has performed so well in theaters. But even Fox Searchlight has to be pleasantly surprised at the numbers this dark Oscar winner set in the world of competitive ballet has posted. As reported on Deadline, Aronofsky’s $12-million Black Swan just pirouetted past the $305 million mark worldwide, thanks to a strong opening over the weekend in Japan. To put the number into perspective, Aronofsky’s second-highest-grossing film, The Wrestler, earned $44.7 million in total global receipts. Don’t even ask about The Fountain, which barely cracked $15 million overall. All kidding aside about Portman, the actress’s star power no doubt helped sell Black Swan overseas, as did the film’s overwhelmingly positive reception from the critical community. But just to be safe, I think a director needs to cast Portman and Kunis in a romantic drama, just to see if it can replicate Swan’s box office stats so we can put this theory to bed -- literally and figuratively -- once and for all. |
