Now that Warner Bros. has abandoned (for now) their superhero team-up project JLA, they’re back to looking for superhero solo-acts to make movies out of. One of the projects they’re prepping is Green Lantern, and the guys over at MH think they may know who they’ll be casting as the titular Lantern.
It looks like Angel, Buffy, and now Bones star David Boreanaz may be up for the part. It seems storyboard artist Brian Murray (see his work here) has been hired to work on the Green Lantern movie, and he got the job based on some Green Lantern concept art he did using Boreanaz and Carla Gugino as models. MH thinks this may mean that the WB has Boreanaz on the brain.
If that’s the direction they’re going, it’s great casting. In fact, he's already played the character, voicing him in a carton. Unfortunately Boreanaz isn’t exactly a big name, and since Warner Brothers has now decided to ignore reality and view the last superhero movie they did with an unknown, Superman Returns, as a failure, it’s hard to believe they’d want to go that route again. I can only see them going with a David Boreanaz after they’ve been turned down by all the Johnny Depp, Jude Law, *shudder* Brendan Frasers of the world.

I wouldn't exactly say that David Boreanaz is a no name. The actor who played Superman from the Superman Returns movie was a very unknown actor. David has done some film and tv that so many people have seen. Bones is doing really well right now with a huge fan base. I don't see him being the Green Lantern being a problem.
I do consider Superman Returns a failure. I believe the script lacked character development and a decent storyline. I thought after Batman Begins, Hollywood would realize how crucial a story line and character development really is. Green Lantern is my favorite superhero and I want this movie done right. David Boreanaz could be Hal Jordan/Green Lantern if he can stray from his past character personalities and mannerisms. Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge Angel fan but Angel is not Hal Jordan. Boreanaz needs a great comic book director (maybe Zack Snyder) to bring Hal Jordan from Boreanaz’s canvas.
Yes, films are not about big names, Johnny Depp is not a big name, he is an outstanding actor who changes mannerisms and personalities faster than superman can change a light bulb, unlike the other two actors mentioned. This film has many possibilities, test piloting futuristic flying machines, the mystery surrounding the guardians and the JLA. Boreanaz can pull this off if the script and the director are symmetrical.
Superman Returns was definitely not a failure. I dunno what WB is thinking if they were thinking that. It had a good story played very well by the cast. If they want failure, look at Superman III and IV. Superman Returns is the kind of script that Chris Reeve (RIP) should have had. Also, Just because a movie is full of stars doesn't mean that it will be great.
David Boreanaz is an excellent actor who can offer a lot to the big screen. I just hope he gets his chance. I hope that someday he can 'break into' the Big screen, though I will miss seeing him every week. David, I hope that you get the chance to become a big star. Even if you don't, you will always have loyal fans waiting to support you.
I SO hope they don't pass him over because his name isn't as "big" as some others - there is absolutely no reason David Boreanaz couldn't play the part brilliantly! And he has his own cult following, even if it doesn't qualify him for the same status as Johnny Depp. Give him a chance - I'd love to see him pull it off and wow everyone in Hollywood!
I think he would be great for the part. David Boreanaz can play anything. He is just an all around good actor and not hard on the eyes. Which is something all these other superhero movies don't have EYE CANDY
Interesting ... Borneaz voiced Green Lantern in the cartoon DVD DC: New Frontier. He'd be great in the role ... I think he understands comics and their fan-base.
