The second video game enthusiasts like myself wrapped up Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune on the PS3 a couple years ago, our immediate thought was, “Wow, this would make a sweet effing movie!” Lo and behold, three years later Sony smartened up and started putting a film together based on the Indiana Jones-esque adventure series.
Unfortunately for Sony, director David O. Russell has walked away from the project after a long negotiation period, leaving them with no shot of getting the film out by their projected release of summer 2011. According to the LA Times, they'll now start the director hunt over again from scratch. This may work in favor of Drake’s though as many of us film junkies know that Russell has a bit of a temper, as shown of during his on-set blow up at Lily Tomlin while filming I Heart Huckabees. Sure he’s made some good movies, but that type of attitude doesn’t make for a fun experience on set and ultimately leads to a movie far less good than what it could have been. Drake’s Fortune should be high on Sony’s priority list right now as the heat surrounding the sequel is starting to fade and built-in buzz surrounding the movie is sure to follow suit. If they're smart they'll go after Nathan Fillion for the lead role. We’ll keep you posted on Sony’s next move when they make it. ![]() Back to top
