The Descendants To Begin Its Blu-Ray Journey In March
The Descendants failed to clean up at Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony, only managing to pull a win in one of its five nominated categories, the Best Adapted Screenplay award, which went to Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon, and Jim Rash. Though facing stiff competition, there is no doubt the writing, the acting, and the direction was all there for The Descendants, and if you haven't seen it yet, you'll get a second opportunity when it hits homes in just a few weeks.
Speaking of the acting, we could bicker back and forth all day about whether or not Shailene Woodley was screwed out of a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Alex, a young, emotionally unstable young woman who is just beginning to deal with her mother’s imminent death. Screwed or not, it's unarguable that Woodley’s is a performance that is mesmerizing enough to watch repeatedly from the comfort of our own homes, and we can do so beginning on March 13th when The Descendants hits Blu-Ray and DVD.
Even if The Descendants did not win ‘em all during Sunday’s show, one of the perks of being an award winner is getting to put together a pretty great set. While the DVD version of The Descendants will only come with three different featurettes, including “Everybody Loves George,” “Working with Alexander,” and “Hawaiian Style,” the Blu-Ray is chock full of extras, including the aforementioned featurettes and an interview with lead actor George Clooney and director Alexander Payne. Also on the Blu-Ray are deleted scenes replete with introductions, which is always a good call; three music videos; a silent film called “The World Parade”; and four more featurettes, focusing on everything from “Casting” to “Working with Water.”
The Descendants may not be a movie about movie magic like many of the other big winners this year, but it is a movie about rolling with the punches and taking what life gives you, which might be more worthwhile, in fact.
