Dwayne Johnson May Play Goliath In Biblical Epic, Offer Out To Taylor Lautner For David?
Until Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson decides to go on a crash diet or stop working out for a year, he's always going to be playing similar kinds of roles. Standing at 6'5" and made of pure muscle, Johnson will spend the rest of his career playing cops, football players, bouncers, and soldiers. It's not a bad thing - he's most certainly become popular doing it - and when a movie titled Goliath enters pre-production producers can't help but think of one name.
Twitch reports that Johnson is now in talks to star as the titular Goliath in Relativity Media's biblical epic. A take on the classic David and Goliath story, the project was first announced back in January with director Scott Derrickson (The Day The Earth Stood Still) at the helm and was envisioned to be like 300 in terms of style. The site also says that an offer has been made to Twilight's Taylor Lautner, though it's unclear if he has responded yet. The rumor makes sense as Twilight producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are also attached to the project.
Should this be true, I assume that they will probably use digital effects to make The Rock even bigger (some manuscripts have the giant standing at almost 10 feet tall), but I still think that Lautner isn't right for this part. While he's only 5'10", which puts him in the average category with American men, the big problem is that his six pack abs are his most famous feature. The whole point of the David and Goliath story is to pit the weak against the strong, and they pick a young actor who spends 90% of his time shirtless on screen? I understand it's a ploy to draw in the Twilight crowd, but they should at least be trying to respect the story a little.
