Eli Roth May Direct Russell Crowe As Dracula In Harker
It was really strange to see Russell Crowe in action in the first red band trailer for the upcoming RZA film The Man With The Iron Fists. The Oscar winner is well known for taking his craft incredibly seriously, so to see him in something as insane-looking at RZA's tribute to grindhouse kung-fu cinema is somewhat a shock. But Crowe's involvement with that film, which was co-written by Eli Roth, makes this new report make a whole lot more sense.
According to Deadline, Roth is now in talks to direct Harker, a new vampire film that puts a twist on Bram Stoker's Dracula and its male protagonist, Jonathan Harker. While the filmmaker has been involved with a lot of projects in recent years, such as taking an acting role in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds and producing the found footage horror movie The Last Exorcism, he actually hasn't directed a feature since 2007's Hostel II, which was largely unsuccessful at the box office. In the new film Crowe will play Dracula, who is on the run from Harker, who has been reimagined as a Scotland Yard detective. The news that Crowe will be playing the vampire runs contrary to initial reports that had him playing the title character. The script was written by Lee Shipman & Brian McGreevy.
The project was originally going to be made by Unknown director Jaume Collet-Serra, but the Spanish filmmaker's schedule has become too busy for Harker. According to an unnamed source, they are still working on the story of the movie, and once they have that nailed down they will start hunting for their lead.
