Ellen Page To Become An Action Star In Queen & Country
Ellen Page is no stranger to films taken from the world of comics, having starred as Kitty Pryde in both Brett Ratner's X-Men: The Last Stand and Bryan Singer's upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, but now she's getting ready to dive into another comic book world. The Hollywood Reporter says that the actress is now in talks to star in the new film Queen & Country, which is based on the book of the same name by Greg Rucka, Steve Rolston , Brian Hurtt, and Leandro Fernandez.
Adapted by screenwriter Ryan Condal - who's most recent film, the Dwayne Johnson-starring Hercules, will be out next summer - the new film centers on Tara Chase, a field agent working for the UK's Secret Intelligence Service. Her missions take her all around the world to protect Queen and Country. The story will see Chase perform an assassination and be forced on the run when her identity becomes compromised. Though he's not mentioned in the trade's report, the comic also features an important character named Paul Crocker, the Director of Operations who must often face decisions that test his loyalty to the people of the United Kingdom and those giving him his orders.
Should she officially sign on, this project would be unlike anything that Page has ever done. While she does have some action movie experience, starring in not only the X-Men films but also James Gunn's Super, those parts were both supporting roles. Here she will have the spotlight directly on her, and from the plot it sounds like she'll be going into full-on Bourne mode. Let's hope she has some better moves than this:
Starring alongside Jesse Eisenberg and Alec Baldwin in Woody Allen's To Rome With Love, Page has spent most of this year in the indie world. At this year's Sundance she was featured in both Lynn Shelton's Touchy Feely (with Rosemarie DeWitt) and The East (with Brit Marling and Alexander Skarsgard). The latter got a limited release back in May, while the former just entered theaters this past weekend. In addition to having X-Men: Days of Future Past due out next year on Memorial Day weekend, she has also lent her likeness and performance to the upcoming video game Beyond: Two Souls, which will hit shelves in October.
As you may have noticed, Queen & Country doesn't have a director just yet, but now that the studio has set up a star chances are their keen on getting somebody to helm the project. Expect more news about the project in the coming months.
