Emma Stone Reteaming With Easy A Director Will Gluck
When Emma Stone snagged the role of Gwen Stacy in the Spider-Man reboot, I admit, I worried this was a sign of her moving on to giant movies and A-list projects and leaving behind small comedies like this fall's Easy A, which we may be arguing in a few years is what really made her a star. Luckily Stone is far smarter than I would probably be in the same situation, and has made room to reteam with her Easy A director WIll Gluck for another project, also back at Screen Gems.
As Deadlne reports, Gluck will write, direct and produce the film, while Stone will be the star and the executive producer. They're not seeing what the project will be, and my guess is they probably don't even know yet--clearly the two just want to work together, and they'll be able to sort out the details themselves. They're aiming to start production next summer, which will be after Stone is finished swooping from rooftops in Spidey Andrew Garfield's arms, and right around the time of the release of The Help, Stone's next film based on Kathryn Stockett's novel. Gluck also has a film coming out around then, Friends With Benefits, the comedy starring Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake.
I'm pinning a lot of hopes on Stone, since it's been a long time since we had a young actress coming up in the ranks who has actual comedic skill to back up good looks (all that space Jessica Alba has taken up in romantic comedies will never be forgiven). Every choice she's been making since breaking out in Superbad seems to be a good one, especially now that's she's stepping out as the star and not just the love interest (Spider-Man notwithstanding, but superhero projects are kind of a special case). All this is a way of saying, keep it up Emma Stone. I like the cut of your jib.
