Ewan McGregor Attached, Kate Hudson In Talks For Born To Be King
You’d think that people would know to avoid combing the words “Kate Hudson” with “romantic comedy,” but Hollywood never seems to learn from its own mistakes. And somehow they’ve gotten Ewan McGregor involved in it too.
Variety has gotten word that McGregor is signed on and Hudson is in talks to star in Born to Be King, a new romantic comedy that is set to be produced by Indomina Releasing. Peter Capaldi, who is best known for playing the foul-mouthed, hot tempered Scottish government official Malcolm Tucker in Armando Iannucci’s In The Loop, will be both writing and directing the feature, making it his first time helming a feature since 2001’s Strictly Sinatra with Ian Hart and Kelly Macdonald.
The story is set in the world of filmmaking and centers on an extra (played by McGregor) who “has an uncanny resemblance to a movie actor.” Hudson will be playing a famous actress who is in the middle of a huge feud with her co-star. Production is gearing up to start this January at the U.K’s famous Pinewood Studios.
I warn against Kate Hudson romantic comedies because while’s she made dozens of them since breaking out in Cameron Crowe’s 2000 drama Almost Famous she has never managed to make one that has gotten a positive reception from critics (then again, you can say that about every movie she’s made other than Almost Famous. Perhaps Capaldi and McGregor can be the difference, however, and help us remember why she became popular in the first place.
