When the the first trailer for Gnomeo and Juliet debuted online yesterday, our fearless leader Josh aptly pointed out that America’s obsession with lawn gnomes (with the exception of the folks at Travelocity) has long since passed and ANY movie chronicling their adventures have no audience. Regardless, Gnomeo and Juliet is happening and the first image has been released hot on the heels of the trailer.

The image shows off the titular pair on some sort of excursion, presumably so they can do sordid things to each other without their parents finding out. You know, like the story goes.

It sort of makes you wonder if anyone behind this movie has even read the play or seen any of the many film and television iterations. I mean, Touchstone, you do know that Romeo and Juliet kill themselves at the end of this story, right? It’s sort of silly to take something of that level of gravitas and then dumb it into a kid’s story.

I digress. Feel free to watch the trailer, somehow laden with actual legitimate actors, and scope out the image below. The characters you see will be voiced by James McAvoy and Emily Blunt.
