First Trailer For The Other Woman Isn't Very Tactful
2011 may very well end up being the greatest year in Natalie Portman's career. In addition to having four movies be released (Thor, Your Highness, No Strings Attached and The Other Woman), it may also be the year that she takes home first first Oscar for her performance in Black Swan, gets married, and gives birth to her first child. Not bad for a twelve month stretch, no? As of today, we've seen trailers for three of Portman's 2011 films, but now we're getting our first look at the fourth.
Yahoo! has premiered the first look at The Other Woman, a Natalie Portman film directed by Don Roos (Bounce) that was originally made back in 2009, but will be given its first limited release on February 4. In the movie, Portman plays a woman named Emilia Greenleaf, who starts a relationship with a married lawyer, named Jack (Scott Cohen). After she gets pregnant, however, Jack divorces his wife and marries Emilia, only to see their young daughter die. As a response to her grief, she begins to get closer to Jack's five year old step-son, despite his mother's protests.
Check out the trailer below and stay tuned after for my reactions.
Raise your hand if you think it's kind of screwed up that this trailer would find its way online the day that Portman announces that she's pregnant and getting married? I understand that the trailer has to get out there, particularly because the movie is being released On-Demand January 1, but they could have been a bit more tactful. Based on the novel, Love And Other Impossible Pursuits by Ayelet Waldman, the IMDb page calls the movie a "comedy/drama", but either they're not showing the humor or it doesn't exist. Either way, it looks like it could be another powerful performance from Portman, though one must wonder why it has sat in the can for so long.
