First Trailer For The Romantics Asks A Lot Of Questions
The first trailer for The Romantics has popped online courtesy of Apple. Starring Katie Holmes, Anna Paquin, Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, Candice Bergen and Elijah Wood, the film centers on a wedding which reunites a group of seven friends, but conflict emerges due to the fact that both the bride and the maid of honor are in love with the groom. The trailer, however, seems to ask more questions than it answers.
The trailer does a fine job explaining the narrative, but is this supposed to be a comedy or a drama? The IMDb page suggests both, but where are the laughs? Also, if you know that there's an emotional connection between the man you are marrying and an old friend, why on Earth do you put her in the wedding party, let alone invite her to the wedding to begin with? Elijah Wood's character calls Anna Paquin the bane of Katie Holmes' existence. And if that's true, why does Holmes even show up? Hopefully the movie will do a better job explaining this.
Check out the trailer below or in HD over at Apple.
The Romantics arrives in theaters on September 10th. Check below for the official synopsis.
Over the course of one raucous night at a seaside wedding seven close friends, all members of a tight, eclectic college clique, reconvene to watch two of their own tie the knot. Laura (Katie Holmes) is maid of honor to Lila (Anna Paquin), her golden girl best friend. The two have long rivaled over the groom, Tom (Josh Duhamel). Friendships and alliances are tested and the love triangle comes to a head the night before the wedding, when the drunken friends frolic in the nearby surf and return to shore... without the groom. Based on the heralded novel by producer, novelist, director Galt Niederhoffer, THE ROMANTICS is a Zeitgeist love story and generational comedy that breathes new life into the genre and recaptures the camaraderie of youth.
