Focus Features Picks Up Rights To Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom image
If it were up to me, studios wouldn't hesitate in picking up a movie by Wes Anderson. Even the man's worst film is better than 90% of movies released in thousands of cinemas nationwide every weekend. However, not including Bottle Rocket (which was never released in more than 50 theaters), his movies only average a little over $25 million domestically. Luckily there are studios like Focus Features.

THR reports that Anderson's newest, Monnrise Kingdom, has been picked up for distribution by the aforementioned studio. The timing coincides with the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, where Focus plans on trying to sell the film to foreign markets. With an all-star cast that includes Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton, the film is about a young couple who decide to run off together and their small town is left in a panic, thinking that they are in trouble.

The film has what could probably be seen as the most marketable lineup since The Royal Tennenbaums, which remains Anderson's highest grossing film and the only one to make more than $50 million. Perhaps someday the world will finally take notice of the excellence that is Wes Anderson. Hopefully Moonrise Kingdom will be the perfect movie to spread that message.
