Monster Butler, the new independent film from director Doug Rath, is one seriously weird, dark project. The movie is based on the true story of Roy Fontaine (aka Archibald Hall), a "bisexual jewel thief/con man/serial killer" and his descent into madness. It already has one key bit of weird/dark casting in place, as A Clockwork Orange legend Malcolm McDowell is already attached to play Fontaine, but now THR is reporting that the film has added the first name that comes to mind when you think of weird/dark actors.
Gary Oldman has signed onto the indie, as has Lord of the Rings star Dominic Monaghan. The film will see Oldman playing a character named Wiggy, Fontaine's partner who has serious anger management problems and also works as a taxidermist. Monaghan is attached to play David Wright (not to be confused with the New York Mets' third baseman), who the trade describes as a "key player in Fontaine's life." The two met while serving a prison sentence and then reunite while working an estate together. Wright is also involved in the blackmailing of Fontaine that eventually led him to psychotown and murderville. Joanne Whalley, who stars on Showtime's The Borgias is also part of the cast. Most recently, Oldman got an Oscar nomination for his performance in Tinker Tailor Solider Spy and and signed on to star in projects like the RoboCop remake and Motor City. He will next be seen in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. Monaghan recently completed work on a horror series titled The Unknown. Back to top
