Girls Star Adam Driver Will Ride Camels With Mia Wasikowska
Though the main stars of HBO's Girls are the, well, girls, one of the show's undisputed breakout stars has been Adam Driver, who plays main character Hannah's inscrutable boyfriend Adam, who started off as the kind of jerk you want her to ditch but wound up being much more layered than that. If you recognize Driver it's likely from Girls, as his previous roles in the likes of J. Edgar or the indie Gayby have been fairly small. But now all that Girls hype is finally starting to pay off, as Driver has booked a new role in an indie opposite none other than up-and-comer Mia Wasikowska.
But he has to head to Wasikowska's native Australia to do it. Deadline reports that he'll be starring in Tracks, based on Robyn Davidson's book that accounts her travel across 1700 miles of Australian wilderness, on camels. Wasikowska will play Davidson, with Driver as Rick Smolan, a New York photographer who joined her to take photos of her journey. Davidson initially wrote about her trek as a National Geographic story, and eventually published the book Tracks. Smolan and Davdison apparently had an "on-again, off-again" romantic relationship during their travels, and hey, you can't blame them-- when you're traveling through the wilderness on camels, who else are you going to spend time with?
Given that it's an independent Australian production, who knows when we'll see Tracks in theaters, but in the meanwhile, Driver will be pretty much everywhere-- on the upcoming second season of Girls, in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln and The Coen Brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis, and in the Daniel Radcliffe-Zoe Kazan rom-com The F Word. Fans of his work on Girls will probably be disappointed to see him wearing a shirt in most of these roles, though.
