Gravity poster

“Don’t let go.”

We’re still waiting to find out exactly what Alfonso Cuaron has in store for us with Gravity, a sci-fi thriller he has been tinkering with for a while now that stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. A trailer is expected to drop Thursday. We have a tease for that tease right here. And Warner Bros. just Tweeted this amazing new poster, with the tagline I shared above.

But what is Gravity about? We’ve heard different things over the years as Cuaron has shot, edited and perfected his next masterpiece. There are mysteries to be solved. Here’s the last synopsis we read:
Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth...and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

And in truth, I’m going to leave the mysteries up to others to solve. This, I hope, will be the last Gravity story I write for Cinema Blend. This is one of those movies I need to see pure, to see clean. I don’t want the experience ruined for me by Vine videos and commercials for teasers for trailers. It’s Cuaron. He’s a genius. He helmed my all-time favorite Harry Potter film. He directed the mind-numbingly awesome Children of Men. We’re all going to whatever he does. I want to see it in IMAX, in its entirety.

So enjoy the Gravity teases, and this poster. I’m letting go … for now. I’ll see you in the theaters on Oct. 4.
