New Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Banner Has Bilbo Ready To Kill Some Giant Spiders
The upcoming fall season is filled to the brim with awesome-looking possible awards contenders like Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity, the Coen brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis, Paul Greengrass' Captain Phillips, and more, but we can't forget the big blockbusters as well. In the next few months we will get our chance to see Alan Taylor's Thor: The Dark World and Francis Lawrence's The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, but once again capping off the end of the year in a big way will be director Peter Jackson, who will once again be taking us back to Middle-earth for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. To get us ready for the film, MGM and New Line have not only revealed the new banner poster you see above (click the image to see it full size), but announced some pretty big news as well.
We got our first look at the new J.R.R. Tolkien adaptation back in June when the first ever trailer for the movie was released online, But now it is time to prepare for our next look at the film. Via the official Hobbit Facebook page it's been announced that the second trailer for the sequel will be arriving online Tuesday, October 1st - also known as tomorrow - at 6am PT / 9am ET. The post doesn't say where the preview will be debuting, but presumably you'll be able to find it on the FB page. While you wait, here is the last trailer that was released for the movie, and as a bonus I've also included the ridiculously cool Lego version:
Adapted by Jackson, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the adventure that began last December as Bilbo Baggins continues his journey with a band of thirteen Dwarves to recover a stolen treasure from an evil dragon (named Smaug). Along the way they must face off against a number of forces that threaten to stop the group in its tracks - including some giant spiders that are hinted at in the banner image at the top of this article. Sir Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, Benedict Cumberbatch, Luke Evans, Stephen Fry and more star in the film, which will be in theaters on December 13, 2013.
