The Hunger Games Beats Twilight's Eclipse In First-Day Advance Ticket Sales At Fandango
Advance tickets for next month’s release of the big screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ young adult novel The Hunger Games went on sale this week, and unsurprisingly, Hunger Games fans have proven to be hungry enough for the film’s release to buy their tickets early, selling out numerous showtimes in the process.
Those who were looking to get a jump start on planning for the The Hunger Games big release into theaters were able to buy tickets for the film yesterday (February 22). The story is set in the future and stars Jennifer Lawrence as a teen who is chosen (forced) by the government to represent her district in a battle to the death against other kids among the nation of Panem. Given the popularity of the book on which the movie is based among teens and young adults, anticipation is understandably high for the film adaptation.
Per Fandango’s release, advance ticket sales for The Hunger Games’ March 23 release have already sold out hundreds of showtimes. It also managed to break the record set at the ticketing service by The Twilight Saga: Eclipse in 2010 for first-day advance ticket sales. Given how hugely popular Twilight is, that’s an impressive feat.
“’The Hunger Games’ is off to a fantastic start,” says Rick Butler, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Fandango. “Yesterday we saw the biggest first day advance ticket sales in our company’s nearly 12-year history – which is especially impressive for a March release and a non-sequel.”
Fans looking to secure their tickets early can visit Fandango or MovieTickets.com to order them online. More information, photos and videos on The Hunger Games, check out our Blend Film Database.
