Hunger Games Catching Fire Katniss Image

Just because the summer season is winding to a close and we only have a few more weeks of hot weather left doesn't mean that 2013 is running short on blockbusters. Sure, we've seen the release of movies like Iron Man 3, Man of Steel and Fast & Furious 6, but there are still plenty of big titles left on the horizon. There are few films in the remainder of the year that are as big as Francis Lawrence's The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, however, and today we continue to celebrate the dwindling number of days until its release with a brand new still from the movie.

As you can tell by the not-so-subtle watermark, the image comes to us from the folks over at Entertainment Weekly, but what's not entirely clear is what is going on in this scene. Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen looks like she's decked out in sportswear, so it's possible that this is the scene that takes place right before she is launched into the Hunger Games arena to fight for her life, but we can't be certain. She doesn't really look too nervous, which is kind of shoots a hole into the theory, but then again she is a pretty brave character.

Based on the second book in Suzanne Collins' best-selling young adult fiction series, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins as Katniss and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) go on a victory tour celebrating their win at the 74th annual Hunger Games. Around the nation of Panem, however, there is revolution brewing, as the lower classes are inspired by Katniss and Peeta's win to stand up to the oppressive government. President Snow (Donald Sutherland) knows that the best way to stop a revolution is to cut off the head, and what better way to do that than by sending Katniss and Peeta back into the arena? Liam Hemsworth (Gale Hawthorne), Woody Harrelson (Haymitch Abernathy), Elizabeth Banks (Effie Trinket), Lenny Kravitz (Cinna), and Stanley Tucci (Caesar Flickerman), will all reprise their roles from the first film while new additions to the franchise include Philip Seymour Hoffman (Plutarch Heavensbee), Jeffrey Wright (Beetee), Sam Claflin (Finnick Odair), and Jena Malone (Johanna Mason). The adaptation was written by Simon Beaufoy (127 Hours), Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3), and Scott Frank (Out of Sight), replacing writer/director Gary Ross.

The film is guaranteed to be a hit coming off the massively successful first movie - which both earned critical praise and made $408 million domestically - but Lionsgate is still likely going to keep showing us various stills, trailers and clips until the finished product is released on November 27th. You can watch the most recent spot below, which was released right after the studio's panel at San Diego Comic-Con a couple weeks back.
