Personally, I could happily see another Earth-altering cataclysm – like, say, an ice age – before I’d ever put forth any effort into watching another entry in Fox and Blue Sky Studio’s Ice Age franchise, but they’re determined to keep putting Manny and Sid through all manner of disastrous adventures. Those of you who love the series will be happy to know Fox have given the next entry, Ice Age 5, a prime summer release date on July 15, 2016, cementing its spot in what is shaping up to be one of the strongest years in animation ever. Or if not the strongest, at least the most plentiful.

Ice Age 5, which will probably come with a subtitled moniker like Global Warming Conflict, will share the summer with two highly anticipated sequels, Pixar’s Finding Dory and Fox’s own How to Train Your Dragon 3, along with the big screen debut of Sony’s Angry Birds. Fox also has their Trolls feature coming out that November, while Disney has two currently untitled animations coming at the beginning and end of the year. Sony also has another untitled animation set for September. How well will another Ice Age movie compete with all of this?

It’s not only other animations it’ll face, either. While all future schedules are of course tentative, Marvel has an untitled feature set for July 8, 2016, and Marvel movies tend to have strong second weekends, given their all-ages nature. And we still have another two and a half years before the schedule is really filled out to see what other tentpole competition Fox will face.

Fox already had a lock on the July 15 date with Anubis, their animated adaptation of Bruce Zick’s young adult fantasy novel The Anubis Tapestry: Between Twilights. According to Box Office Mojo, they’ve pushed Anubis back to March 23, 2018, which doesn’t speak so highly to that film’s reach. Also, they already have five untitled animations set for different 2018 dates. Do they think 2018 is a rug under which movies can be swept?

There’s no sign of what this next Ice Age film will be about, or what cast members will be returning. The last film, Continental Drift, was overloaded with celebrity voiceovers. The three main cast members Ray Romano, Denis Leary and John Leguizamo were joined by Queen Latifah, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Kunal Nayyar, Seann William Scott, Aziz Ansari, Joy Behar, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad, Alain Chabat, Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Rebel Wilson, Wanda Sykes, Patrick Stewart and Alan Tudyk. We’ll let you know what forty other members of Hollywood elite are joining the cast as they’re announced. In the meantime, listen to a few of those voices in the trailer below.
