International Trailer Shows Off John Carter's Origins
In a way, John Carter is kind of a superhero. Unlike the native people of Mars, who have spent their entire lives experiencing the red planet's low gravity, Carter has the ability to leap huge distances without breaking a sweat. But if the protagonist is a superhero, that means that Andrew Stanton's John Carter will be serving as an origin story. So how exactly did he end up on Mars? That question is answered in the new international trailer...kind of.
The newest preview comes to us from Japan, and while it features more of John Carter's time on Earth as well as what happens when he is sent to Mars, it's kind of unclear as to how exactly it happens (and the narration in a language that I don't speak isn't helping much). Check out the trailer below. Set to be released on March 9, 2012, John Carter tells the story of the titular Civil War veteran who is transported to the fourth planet. Constantly searching for a way home, Carter finds himself caught up in a war between dueling martians. The movie is based on the beloved Barsoom novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs and stars Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Daryl Sabara, Polly Walker, Bryan Cranston, Thomas Hayden Church, and Willem Dafoe.
