Did the term "cougar" get copyrighted when I wasn't looking? For years it's been the accepted cat-related term for older women who like to date younger men; I'm not certain, but I'm pretty sure it was even the name of a reality show. But when it comes time for the term to hit the big-time, becoming a movie, someone backed out, and named the thing Pumas instead.

Even odder, they've gotten Jennifer Aniston to star in the film, a woman who has been painted by the tabloids alternately as a baby-hungry loner or, look at that, a cougar when dating younger men like John Mayer. According to Variety the director of this strange thing will be Wayne McClammy, whose name you don't know but whose work you most definitely recognize-- both "I'm Fucking Matt Damon" and "I'm Fucking Ben Affleck" bear his name. Melissa Stack wrote the screenplay.

There's a good side to this, which is that Jennifer Aniston is taking a lead role in a comedy, and comedies are always good things for her. The bad side is that the movie seems deeply silly and beneath her, especially with a nonsensical title like Pumas.
