Jennifer Aniston, Mark Duplass & Ben Kingsley Team Up For Mind-Bending Comedy Convention
You probably don't know the name Justin Reardon, but you will soon. The commercial director is set to debut his first feature A Many Splintered Thing later this year. And with a cast that boasts Chris Evans and Michelle Monaghan the self-proclaimed "anti-romantic comedy" is sure to attract notice. But buzz on Reardon is already increasing. Though the emerging filmmaker hasn't yet finished his debut film, he has already scored an impressive cast for his follow-up.
Jennifer Aniston, Mark Duplass and Ben Kingsley have signed on to star in Convention, a comedy that's so strange in concept K5 International is selling it at the European Film Market in Berlin as "Kaufman-esque." The press release, which you can read in full at Coming Soon, makes it clear this is in reference to Charlie Kaufman, the celebrated screenwriter behind such celebrated and mind-bending comedies as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Being John Malkovich, and Adaptation. However, it's penned by The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius writer Christopher Painter, and Kaufman is no way attached to the project.
Duplass stars as mild-mannered box-making visionary Paul, who aspires to change the world of storage with his 5-sided box. Aniston will play his sassy sister Abby, who supports him in his pursuit, despite this box's physics-defying properties. Kingsley is set to play Bobby Schroedinger, business rival and box magnate. But Schroedinger is not the only antagonist these box-bending siblings encounter. They must also confront Mathematical Construct, a guardian of the universe's mathematical order who reveals this 5-sided box could rip a hole in the universe that could destroy the world. Realizing the damage his creation has caused, Paul must rush to restore the galaxy's intended order…as well as save his dream girl. So, you know, it's "Kaufman-esque."
A Many Splintered Thing is now in post-production. Convention is expected to roll into production this summer.
