Like most sequels, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island plans to think bigger. It replaced regular-sized Brendan Fraser with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. It added fresh faces like Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzman and Michael Caine (WTF?!?!) to the ensemble. And now IMAX Corporation, in partnership with Warner Bros., has announced that it will screen the 3D family action sequel on select IMAX screens beginning on Friday, February 10.

According to a press release, Brad Peyton’s follow up to 2008’s Journey to the Center of the Earth will reach 282 IMAX theaters domestically and an additional 166 around the globe. The film reportedly has been digitally remastered to fit the format, though if the Cats & Dogs director didn’t aim for IMAX from the get-go I'm not sure how that’s going to work properly. If you end up paying the extra bucks to actually see Journey 2 on an IMAX screen, be sure to let us know how it looks.
