Juno Temple Is The Third Pixie In Angelina Jolie's Maleficent
We got a big burst of casting news not long ago about Maleficent, the Angelina Jolie-led project in which she plays the titular wicked queen who terrorizes Sleeping Beauty. We learned that Imelda Staunton and Lesley Manville had signed on to play the pixies who care for Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning) in a cottage in the woods, but if you've seen the classic Disney Sleeping Beauty, you know there are three fairies involved. Enter Juno Temple, who THR reports has signed on as the third pixie-- she's Thistletwit, while Maville and Staunton play Knotgrass and Flittle.
Shooting is set to begin this summer, with Sharlto Copley also on board to play Stefan, the half-human and half-fairy son of the human king, who will be played by Kenneth Cranham. The rest of the cast includes Brighton Rock's Sam Riley and Miranda Richardson, perhaps best known as Rita Skeeter from the Harry Potter movies. Directing the whole thing is Robert Stromberg, who won an Oscar for the production design of Avatar and worked with Tim Burton on Alice in Wonderland to move on to make his directorial debut here.
As for Temple, she's been on the verge of being the next big thing for what feels like forever, with standout roles in Atonement, Notes on a Scandal, Greenberg and even the generally terrible Year One. This year alone she's got the indies Killer Joe, Little Birds and Jack and Diane, along with another movie you've probably heard of called The Dark Knight Rises. It's unclear so far what her role in that will be, but if it holds to her usual standard, she'll steal the whole show out from everyone else around her.
