Karl Urban Returning For The Chronicles of Riddick: Dead Man Stalking
I must admit that Karl Urban's career somewhat befuddles me. Don't get me wrong - I think he's a talented actor - but he seems to constantly land high profile gigs and then fade into the background. The perfect example of this is J.J. Abrams' Star Trek. While he had some great moments at the start of the film, from his first meeting with Kirk to sneaking the future captain on to the Enterprise, he all but disappeared in the second half of the story. Hopefully he'll have better luck in his return to the Riddick franchise.
Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Urban will once again play alongside Vin Diesel as Vaako in The Chronicles of Riddick: Dead Man Stalking. The character was introduced in the first Chronicles of Riddick movie where he served as a commander under Lord Marshall (Colm Feore). Urban is only the second actor to join the cast of the film, after Diesel. Set up as a direct sequel to Pitch Black, the plot revolves around Riddick's thirst for revenge against those that betrayed him. When some of the galaxy's greatest bounty hunters are sent to kill him, he uses the opportunity to his advantage and plans his return to Furya to not only take vengeance, but to save the planet from destruction. The movie is being directed by David Twohy.
I sure hope they wrote him a significant part for this one. Given that Urban has the new Judge Dredd movie coming out next year, he may not need to keep playing supporting roles forever, but a strong performance in the new Riddick could go a long way. Hell, maybe he could even get his own Vaako spinoff movie.
