Knight and Day will arrive seven nights and seven days earlier. According to Variety, Twentieth Century Fox has decided to move the Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz action comedy up a week from July 2nd to June 25th in an effort to dodge some competition.
First and foremost, the studio wants to give the film its time to shine before the release of Warner Bros’ Leonardo DiCaprio starrer Inception on July 16th and Sony’s Angelina Jolie starrer Salt on the 23rd. On top of that, Knight and Day’s original debut date would only give it five days before the The Twilight Saga: Eclipse arrives and we all know what happens when a new Twilight movie hits; the entire world practically shuts down. But of course, June 25th isn’t opposition-free. Knight and Day will now be going up against Adam Sandler, Kevin James and Chris Rock in Grown Ups. This could be risky considering both films will be aiming for those looking for a good laugh. On the other hand, if Grown Ups gets panned, moviegoers would flock to see Knight and Day. However, there’s always the chance Knight and Day could suffer from some critical backlash of its own and everyone will just stick with the previous week’s releases Jonah Hex and Toy Story 3.
