Kristen Wiig Attached To Star In New Action Comedy From The Writers Of The Descendants
Nat Faxon and Jim "Dean Pelton" Rash are having one hell of a week. As though it weren't enough that the duo took home Oscar gold on Sunday when they won Best Adapted Screenplay for their work on Alexander Payne's The Descendants, now they have roped in one of this year's other nominees to star in their next project.
Kristen Wiig, who was nominated for Best Original Screenplay Sunday night but sadly lost to Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris, is now attached to star in the new movie, which doesn't seem to have a title just yet. Furthermore, Variety says that Indian Paintbrush has signed on to produce the film after a competitive bidding war. No plot details are given, though the trade does describe the film as an action-comedy. The trio has a long history together as they used to all perform as part of the improv comedy troupe the Groundlings in Los Angeles.
In addition to this project, Faxon and Rash have also begun work on a second title for Fox Searchlight and Alexander Payne and they are set to make their directorial debuts this summer with a project called The Way, Way Back, which they also wrote. Featured on the 2007 Black List (a list of the most popular unproduced screenplays in Hollywood during a given year), the story is a coming-of-age tale about a teenager who begins an unlikely friendship with the owner of a local waterpark. That project is set to star Sam Rockwell and Allison Janney.
