Laurence Fishburne, Selena Gomez And More Join William H. Macy's Rudderless
William H. Macy is getting set to make his directorial debut, and it looks like he'll be doing so with an all-star cast. It was previously reported that Macy would be starring in the movie alongside Felicity Huffman, his wife and frequent co-star, but now the rest of film has been filled out... and with some fantastic names to boot.
Variety has learned that Billy Crudup, Anton Yelchin, Selena Gomez and Laurence Fishburne have all joined the cast of Rudderless, the music drama that Macy is going to start filmming at the end of this month in Oklahoma. Based on a script co-written by Casey Twenter and Jeff Robison, the story centers on a father who is emotionally devastated after the death of his son. When he finds a box of his kid's old things, however, including some original music, he decides to start a band, hoping that it will help him deal with the pain. Unfortunately the trade doesn't mention what roles any of the actors will be playing, but presumably Macy will be playing the main character. Unified Pictures is producing and financing the film. (UPDATE! We've learned from Unified Pictures that Crudup will actually be playing the lead, while Macy will be in a supporting role)
Fishburne is one of the main characters on the new NBC series Hannibal, while Selena Gomez can currently be seen in theaters alongside Vanessa Hudgens and James Franco in Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers. Yelchin will soon be seen back at the helm of the USS Enterprise in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness - which will be in theaters this May - and Crudup is currently filming the Noah Buschel-written and directed Glass Chin, which sees him playing a former boxer framed for murder.
