What do you do if you find out your father is having an affair? That’s the central question in need of answering in the upcoming indie The Only Living Boy In New York. Based on an Allen Loeb script, the film follows a teenager who discovers the aforementioned ghastly secret about his father. Pissed off and frustrated, he tracks the woman down and confronts her, only to end up bedding the older woman himself. Two members of the same family on one chick has never been and will never be good policy. Root on, encourage if you must but never dip pens into the same ink. It just doesn’t end well.

Logan Lerman, fast becoming a sought after star, has boarded as the principal boy, and Seth Gordon will direct. Now it remains to be seen what kind of talent the director can attract to support his lead. The father and floozy are both imperative, but word is The Only Living Boy In New York also has a neighbor who’s key to the story. He corresponds regularly with Lerman’s character, offering some sketchy advice at times but also an ear to listen.

According to Deadline, Seth Gordon is looking to start production as soon as possible, but it’ll need to wait until at least the Fall to accommodate Lerman’s upcoming work as the main character in Perks Of Being A Wallflower.

I'm not ready to call Lerman the next Tom Hanks, but he's certainly on his way to entering Michael Cera territory.
