Mel Gibson Rumored For The Villain Role In Expendables 3
Mel Gibson, who has experienced controversy after controversy in the last few years, seems to be fully embracing the villain role that society seems to have placed him in. In a few months he will be seen playing an evil, psychotic weapons dealer with plans to send a missile into space in Robert Rodriguez's Machete Kills, and now there are rumors surfacing that suggest he could be the newest target for Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham and friends.
Showbiz 411 has learned from sources close to the film that there have been some serious talks about bringing Gibson in as the antagonist of The Expendables 3. At one point the Aussie actor was actually being mentioned in conversations about possibly directing the feature, but those plans obviously didn't work out, and now it seems that the production may have found room for him in the cast. If the story is true, Gibson joins a batch of new recruits that will also include Nicolas Cage, Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes and Milla Jovovich, all of whom were announced to be on-board at the end of last month. As we previously reported, Red Hill's Patrick Hughes is on board to direct the movie and Stallone is currently working on the script. Lionsgate has announced that they will be releasing the sequel in theaters on August 15th.
Outside of Machete Kills, Gibson hasn't had the easiest time getting work these past few years. His last film, 2012's Get The Gringo, was released on VOD, and before that he had 2011's The Beaver, which notoriously failed to get any box office attention.
