Michael Bay Is Offering A Sucker's Bet About The Twins Not Being In Transformers 3
Michael Bay thinks you're an idiot.
That's the only possible logic I can see behind the "bet" he's offering over at his own site's forums, forced to apologize for what seems like the hundredth time for the racist Autobot characters Skids and Mudflap who appeared in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Buzz started back up over the weekend in posts like this one that saw set photos and assumed, rationally, that meant that Skids and Mudflap would be back. But Bay has been promising for months that they were goners, and included them in the many elements of Transformers 2 that he's apologized for.
What explains the set photos? Bay isn't telling, and Paramount got in touch with us over the weekend based on a story we'd written over a year ago to say conclusively they won't be in the movie. But Bay isn't leaving it there; in the forum post Bay wrote, "I am offering a $25,000 REWARD to anyone who can find them performing in Transformers 3, on July 1, when the movie opens." Of course, this is pretty much the definition of a sucker's bet, the equivalent of me offering you $50,000 if you can find the egg I'm hiding behind my back, then expecting you to search for it. Of course you're not going to look for it-- it's obviously not there. But Bay being Bay certainly knows that there will be people combing every frame of the mayhem in Transformers: Dark of the Moon-- and the worst part is that he's right.
Please save yourself the time-- the Twins are obviously not in the movie, no matter what evidence may point otherwise, and even if you do think you see them Bay isn't going to agree with you. He's got final cut over this movie, and say what you will about his scattered filmmaking style, there's no way there will be two characters present in the movie without his knowledge. This is not a real bet. Of all the possibly terrible things that will show up in Dark of the Moon, Skids and Mudflap will thankfully not be among them.
