Michael Mann In Talks To Direct Go Like Hell
Just when you think Michael Mann is going to turn right, he decides to sprint left. For months the Heat director was deciding between a period gangster movie called Tuna and a period war film about the Battle of Agincourt, but then it was reported that a script called Gold, described as a "modern Treasure of the Sierra Madre." So what is Mann's next project? He's going with Option D.
Variety reports that Mann is close to signing a deal with Fox that will have him direct Go Like Hell, the story of how the rivalry between Ford and Ferrari resulted in the first American car winning The 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966. The script will be based on the book by A.J. Baime and largely center on Henry Ford II, Lee Iacocca and Carroll Shelby. The film will center on the development of the Ford GT40, the car that won the legendary race. Brad Pitt's name is thrown into the mix as a possible lead, but nothing has been made official.
Of all four options I actually think that this one is the most exciting. There's potential here for a great mix of character drama and action, both of which Mann has proven time and time again that he can handle with aplomb. Color me excited.
