Modern Family's Ty Burrell Joins The Jackie Brown Prequel, Switch image
Now that he's an Emmy winner and his show is on hiatus, Ty Burrell probably has a number of projects that he can choose from. Though he's now been playing the hilarious Phil Dunphy for three seasons on Modern Family, Burrell has always been an actor who can both play comedy and drama. Today he's picked up a role that will likely require him to flex both muscles.

Burrell has taken a part in Switch, the upcoming prequel to Quentin Tarantino's Jackie Brown helmed by writer/director Dan Schechter. The story will follow the early adventures of Louis Gara and Ordell Robbie, who were played by Robert De Niro and Samuel L. Jackson in Tarantino's film. Last week it was announced that this time around it will be John Hawkes and Yasiin Bey (formally known as Mos Def). Based on the novel by Elmore Leonard, Switch follows Ordell and Louis as they orchestrate the kidnapping of the wife of a corrupt Detroit real estate developer. A wrench gets thrown in their plans, however, when they discover that the mark actually doesn't want his wife back, and, instead, Ordell and Louis team up with the wife to get revenge on the asshole.

According to Variety, Burrell will play a character named Marshall Taylor, who is a married member of the same country club as the wife. He has been in love with her for a long time, but is faced with a moral dilemma when he witnesses her kidnapping. Production on the film is scheduled to start in May.
