More Avatar 2 Guesswork From Stephen Lang
James Cameron is a pretty busy dude. Still reeling from the massive success of Avatar, the uber-director has several projects that he is circling, one of which involves a return to Pandora for a follow up to the highest grossing film of all-time. Even though that's not the only project on his plate-- Cameron almost always talks about Battle Angel when questioned about his next--Stephen Lang is convinced that Avatar 2 is next on the director's to-do list.
The news comes from Digital Spy, but is rumor at best. The actor played Col. Quaritch in our first experience with the Na'vi, and not only said that he thinks Avatar 2 will be Cameron's next project, but he's hoping that he gets the chance to be in the sequel even though his character dies at the end of the first one. Sorry for the spoiler, but if you haven't seen this movie yet it's your own damn fault. When Lang was asked if he'd be back, he had this to say:
"I would hope so, he's certainly an interesting character, I hope we haven't seen the last of him - that's up to the creator of the planet. Where there's DNA, there's hope."
Nothing about what he said has been confirmed by anyone in a position of power on Avatar 2. It mostly just sounds like a hopeful actor looking for another shot to be in a super high grossing film with lots of special effects, and who could blame him? If Pandora can transfer Jake Sully's consciousness from a human body into an avatar, then it would make sense that it can do the same for the evil colonel, putting Lang back in the action. He was a great villain, so Lang might be onto something here.
Don't expect James Cameron to confirm or deny any of this for a long time. In fact, we'll probably see even more "he said, she said" sort of news surrounding the project for at least the length of the summer while Cameron gets his schedule together. We'll keep you posted.
